Resolution is the most important feature of all. These sets have a
minimum of 720p while many of the top rated HDTV's offer 1080p, which is
the output of PlayStation 3, Blu-ray, and HD-DVD. 1080p is the best you
can get but if you are looking to purchase a HDTV, less than 50 inches
then you not see much difference between 720p and 1080p. If you want a
screen that is 60 inches are larger then you will want a 1080p
resolution.
You will also want to look for a HDTV with a built in
tuner. The main reason is that HD and SD programming use different
tuners. The problem is that you may purchase a HDTV that states it is HD
capable, does not mean that it has a tuner built in. To enjoy really HD
programming you will still need to purchase a HD tuner, which will cost
around another $200 and you will have to find a place to place the
gadget out of the way.
You will also want to check for rear and
side inputs known as component and HDMI as these are the best way for an
HD signal to be displayed. HDMI is the option for plugging in DVD
players, game systems, and even your cable box. You should always ensure
the set you buy has at least three of these inputs.
The viewing
angle is very important if you want everyone in the room to be able to
enjoy the same great picture quality. As you stand in front of the set
walk to the side and keep an eye on the screen, if you see it going
darker and darker, then you want to look elsewhere for your HDTV. Flat
panels and LCD's are the best to avoid this problem.
